First and Third Graders Team Up for Monster Match

First and third grade students at Bridgehampton School teamed up for a fun, Halloween-themed activity that combined creativity, communication and critical thinking.
During the “Monster Match” activity, third graders began by drawing their own unique monsters. They then wrote step-by-step instructions describing how to recreate their designs, carefully detailing the colors, shapes, sizes and positions of each feature.
When the first graders joined the activity, students partnered up, and the third graders verbally guided the younger students through the drawing process using their written instructions. Once the drawings were complete, each pair compared their creations to see how closely the first graders’ monsters matched the original designs.
The activity encouraged students to practice clear communication, follow directions and pay attention to detail, all while enjoying a festive Halloween-themed learning experience. It also gave students an opportunity to collaborate across grade levels and learn from one another through creativity and teamwork.
